Some people say that Homer, while describing the enchanted island of Ogigia, Ulysses and the nymph Calypso, was actually referring to the island of Mljet.

The main attraction of the island are the two saltwater lakes, surrounded by a lovely thick forest. Enjoy a boat ride from the lakes to the island Melita and visit the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary dating from the 12th century.
